5th October 2006

Dr Nigel Masters and Nigel Carpenter local pharmacist are nominated for a Wycombe PCT award for medicine use review development. Extensive use of indication labelling makes this process which is part of the new Pharmacy Contract safer and more efficient.

24th May 2006

NHS innovations South East presents Clinical Indications with a Judges Commendation in the IT/Knowledge Category. Clinical Indications is working closely with this NHS Innovation hub to find and develop appropriate healthcare software so that more rapid deployment of this concept can be implemented in all health sectors.

10th November 2005

Clinical indications wins BUPA Communication Award. The vice-chairman of the BUPA Foundation Dr Andrew Valance-Owen says: "We immediately recognised this as an innovative idea that would have a far-reaching impact on patients and carers. For instance many older people can be on ten different medications and it is easy for them or their carers to become confused about what each medicine is given for. Indication labelling spells it out for them. As well as helping patients understand what their medications are for, indication labelling also shows other health staff what condition a patient is taking a given medicine for, and may decrease the risk of the wrong drug being described."

Clinical Indications is nominated for a Medical Futures Award in the group "Best innovation to improve patient safety".

Spring 2005

First Clinical Indication Directory developed to show range of simple clinical labelling phrases linked to medication. This is available for viewing online in our Clinical Indications Directory section or at Wycombe Primary Care Trust website listed in the Medicines Management section as Indication Labelling.

7th December 2004

Clinical Indications wins GP Business Enterprise Award 2004. The prize is given to Dr Nigel Masters at the House of Commons. Health Minister Dr Stephen Ladyman said, "Innovation such as this must be applauded. With 640 million prescriptions given out each year even a small percentage of error means thousands of patients can be affected. With clearer information on prescriptions, the chances of mistakes happening will be greatly reduced." Royal College of General Practitioner President Dr Roger Neighbour said: "These awards are a tribute to and in recognition of the enterprising nature of GPs. Initiatives such as the one pioneered by Dr Masters deliver real added value to patients. We would like to see his system used more widely across the UK."

12th May 2004

Online poll at onmedica.net shows that seventy per cent of general medical practitioners who responded to an online survey want clinical indication labelling automatically placed on medication scripts.
